A 12 bar blues song uses, surprise surprise... 12 bars. If you look at blues sheet music and blues tabs you will find that it works for every 12 bar blues song and most blues music. But the 12 bar chords structure may be different in every song. In reality most songs use a very similar structure, and only use 1 or 2 bar variations. If you learn the basic 12 bar structure you will be able to write your own blues, and with a little knowledge of music theory you can even start playing and improvising with the 12 bar blues.
