Audio-Technica microphones chosen for seattle's prestigious experience music project

- Massive interactive museum on music and creative inspiration
gets a sonic boost from A-T microphones and headphones -
Audio-Technica is pleased to announce that it is the supplier of over 300 microphones and headphones for the Experience Music Project (EMP), a huge interactive museum dedicated to expanding awareness of and access to the fundamentals of modern American pop music, music-making technology, and its surrounding culture. This wide-range of A-T products now provides visitors to the EMP the ability to experience firsthand how pop music is created, recorded and performed.

The list of A-T microphones currently in everyday use at the Experience Music Project includes AT4051a (4), AT4050/CM5 (2), ATM25 (2), ATM23HE (3), ATM41a (10), and ATM35 (2) microphones. In addition, 300 ATH-M3X headphones are in constant use by visitors as part of self-guided tours at the facility.

Over 450,000 visitors have passed through the portals of the Experience Music Project, which is the brainchild of Microsoft co-founder and music enthusiast Paul Allen. Many of them have participated in the hands-on aspects of the museum, including the chance to perform live onstage. In addition, guests have the opportunity to take part in Demo Labs, where technicians show and explain the process of creating music in the recording studio, including sampling techniques, how to record a drum kit, as well as overdubbing vocals. In each of these and many other applications, Audio-Technica microphones are the interface between the public and the world of the recording studio.

"With so many people using these microphones on an ongoing basis, the durability of the A-T products is amazing," observes Reek Havok, Interactive Technology Specialist at the Experience Music Project. "The A-T microphones have held up to quite a bit of handling, more than they'd ever get in the normal course of usage in the studio or on stage. And they have performed flawlessly ever since we opened in June." Havok also cites the A-T microphones for their versatility: "A relatively small number of microphone models have been able to cover every aspect of recording, from sampling to miking drum kits and guitar amps, to recording vocals."

When searching for a microphone and headphone equipment supplier for the Experience Music project, Havok says the museum's technical experts had several criteria in mind. Particularly critical was the notion that, while the equipment had to be of the best quality, it also had to be accessible to a wide audience. "Whatever microphones we used in the facility had to present visitors with a benchmark of pro audio quality, and also would be something that they could go to a local music store and find easily and affordably. We want our visitors to take the inspiration they find here and use it to continue to expand their own musical horizons. The A-T equipment we have here fits all of those criteria perfectly."
