chamber music series to be held at the Neue GalerieNeue Galerie New York and the Bard Music Festival announce a chamber music series to be held at the Neue Galerie, 1048 Fifth Ave., New York City. Six one-hour concert programs are planned for 2002, each juxtaposing works from the so-called "second Viennese School" of the twentieth century with works by nineteenth century Austrian or German composers.Series schedule: Wednesday, April 10, 7:00 p.m.--The Colorado Quartet will perform Brahms’s Quartet in B flat major, Op. 67 and Webern’s Langsamer Satz and Five Movements for String Quartet, Op. 5. Wednesday, May 8, 7:00 p.m.--Scott St. John, violin; Peiyao Wang, piano; and Courtney Budd, soprano will present a program of Schubert’s Fantasia in C, D934 and Schoenberg’s Fantasy, Op.47, both for violin and piano, along with song cycles by Hugo Wolf and Richard Strauss. Wednesday, June 5, 7:00 p.m.--Laurie Smukler and Patricia Sunwoo, violins; Ira Weller, viola; Robert Martin, cello will perform Schubert’s Quartet in B flat, D112 and, with soprano Lucy Shelton, Schoenberg’s Second String Quartet. Wednesday, October 16, 7:00 p.m.--The Jacques Thibaud Trio will present a concert that includes Schoenberg’s String Trio, Op. 45 and a string trio of Schubert. Wednesday, November 13, 7:00 p.m.--Pianist Siiri Schuetz and violinist Erica Kiesewetter will perform a program which includes Brahm’s Sonata in D minor, Op. 108 for violin and piano, and Mendelssohn’s Variations Serieuses, Op. 54, Schoenberg’s Three Pieces, Op. 11, Webern’s Variations, Op. 27, all for piano solo. Wednesday, December 11, 7:00 p.m.--The Chiara String Quartet will perform Schubert’s Quartet in D minor, D810 ("Death and the Maiden") and Alban Berg’s String Quartet, Op. 3. Tickets are $40 and are available in advance or at the door.
