the Tetra Chord or Tetrachord TC chord
A tetra chord is a chord using 4 notes. The greek word tetra means 4. This chord is the basis of greek based harmony. The perfect 4th interval was the basis for harmony in and through the middle ages.
Later harmony based on 3rds replaced the tetra chord harmony. In ancient Greece the octave was basically two equal halves, two perfect 4ths or tetra (four) chords.
In the sheet music below two Tetra chords are shown. Listen to the included piano music.
