Online Voting Decides Winners of Best Buy/Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 4
Punk rock band Agent 51 of San Diego emerged as the grand prize winner of the Best Buy/Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 4, receiving the popular online vote from among upwards of 300 bands entered in the competition. They won thousands of dollars of prizes including Ernie Ball guitars and basses. Flame of El Paso, Texas placed second and Crown King of North Vancouver, BC came in third.
"We’re really excited to win -- we’ve been working really hard and touring a lot, so this is definitely the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to get my new Axis guitar!" said Chris Armes, guitarist and vocalist for Agent 51. "We have a lot of fans in San Diego area, and they really gave us their support by getting online and voting for us."
Armes describes their music as a mix between the Ramones, Green Day and AC/DC, and says that Agent 51 is trying to bring the "rock" back into music. Along with Armes, other band members are Greg Schneider – bass and vocals; Eric Davis – guitar and vocals; and Mike Levinson – drums. Together for five years, the band recently started up their own record label.
Now in its fourth year, the Best/Buy Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 4 is considered the longest running and largest live music promotion of its kind. Upwards of 300 bands performed on the Best Buy/Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 4 stage to thousands of screaming fans at one of the 38 Warped Tour 2000 venues during the summer 2000.
Shortly after the Warped Tour concluded, Ernie Ball launched online voting on its web site to choose an overall winner by popular vote. All 300 bands received a web page that included an MP3 audio file, one minute video file (filmed live with Sony Handycam Digital Camcorders at the Warped Tour on Ernie Ball’s mobile stage, and streamed by Sonic Foundry), bio and photo.
In addition to helping their favorite band win, online voters were registered to win one of two PlayStation 2â computer entertainment systems.
Agent 51 won prizes including an Ernie Man Music Man guitar and a bass of their choice, five-piece Drum Workshop drum set, Zildjian Cymbals, Line 6 amplifiers, Sony Playstions and more. The runners up also received various prizes.
