Tascam previews software updates for mx-2424 hard-disk recorder
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA ... TASCAM (Booth 6491) is previewing software updates for the MX-2424 24-track, 24-bit hard-disk recorder. With nearly 3,000 units shipped since April 2000, the MX-2424 has already carved a niche as a ubiquitous and revolutionary audio recording tool, and these new software updates add a slew of exciting new features.
96kHz recording, scheduled for a springtime 2001 release, allows for recording and playback at the 96kHz sampling rate. This software update will permit 12 tracks of 24-bit, 96kHz audio on the MX-2424 in addition the current 24 tracks at 24-bit, 48kHz rates. Also slated for spring 2001 release is a software update which provides compatibility with the HFS+ Macintosh drive format. Like the FAT-32 update, the HFS+ update offers capabilities for larger drive sizes.
TASCAM is also previewing MX-View at Winter NAMM 2001. Slated for a summer 2001 delivery, MX-View provides a new graphic editing interface for Macintosh and Windows computers that offers detailed waveform editing capabilities, easier virtual track management, viewing multiple machines on one screen simultaneously and other enhancements. Like previous versions of the MX-2424 operating system, 96 kHz recording capabilities and MX-View will be available at free all registered MX-2424 owners, and can be accessed as a download from the TASCAM website (www.tascam.com).

A 24-track, 24-bit random access recorder/player/editor with a list price of $3,999, the MX-2424 has quickly found its way into an array of end-user settings, with target customers ranging from home and project studios to commercial music recording facilities to post-production soundstages. One of the product's recent high-profile applications was scoring for the motion picture release, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.
The TASCAM MX-2424 base model comes with a built-in, nine-gigabyte SCSI hard drive and two channels of AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital I/O. The user has the choice of 24 channels of optional TASCAM TDIF, ADAT optical or AES/EBU digital I/O. Professional-quality analog I/O is available as an option with 24 channels of 24-bit 48/44.1kHz audio and 12 channels of 24-bit, 96kHz audio. The MX-2424 provides video and time code lock capabilities as standard features, making it easy to integrate with external workstations. It also resolves to AES/EBU, S/PDIF, word clock, TDIF-1, ADAT optical, SMPTE Time Code (LTC) and video and chases MIDI Time Code.
An internal drive bay and external SCSI port provide for easy connection of SCSI hard drives, removable SCSI media and DVD-RAM drives, which can be used both for extending recording time or back up.
