Tascam displays DA-78HR and DA-98HR 24-bit multitrack recorder/players at namm
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA TASCAM (Booth 6491), the world's largest manufacturer of recording equipment and accessories, is displaying both the DA-78HR and the DA-98HR DTRS-format professional 24-bit multitrack recorder/players at Winter NAMM 2001. Following in the footsteps of the industry standard DA-88 and DA-98, the DA-78HR and DA-98HR are aimed at music recording, film, post-production and archiving facilities looking for uncompromising sound and performance.
"No tape-based machine equals the performance or sonic quality of the DA-78HR or DA-98HR," says Mike McRoberts, TASCAM international product development manager. "With the introduction of these products, TASCAM has extended the versatility of the DTRS format by providing full 24-bit recording resolution while maintaining backward compatibility with the existing installed based of 16-bit machines."
Featuring a proprietary ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) designed by TASCAM engineers, which provides vastly improved modulation and error correction code algorithms, these recorders write 24-bit digital audio (and 16-bit to assure backwards compatibility) data to DTRS format tapes without increasing either drum or tape speed. Both machines provide full record and playback compatibility with all DA-98, DA-88 and DA-38 tapes utilizing the 16-bit, 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz standard.
In High-Resolution mode, the DA-78HR and DA-98HR will record and play back eight tracks with full 24-bit resolution at either the 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz sampling rates. The DA-98HR additionally offers high-resolution record and playback capabilities including four tracks at 24-bit, 88.2/96 kHz; or two tracks of 24-bit 192 kHz. This inherent flexibility complements the needs of the emerging DVD and HDTV markets, as well as current surround sound and archiving standards.
As 24-bit digital audio becomes the new standard for music, audio post and multimedia production, TASCAM's DA-78HR and DA-98HR provides the artist or audio professional the opportunity to capture performances with pristine sound quality and ensures the best sonic results at mixdown.
