4 Bar Bass Rock Song Exercise
In previous lessons we have looked at some of the basics of bass playing and rock music. In this next lesson we'll start with real rock song type exercises.
Most songs use a 4 bar pattern that is repeated 2, 4, 8 or 16 times. In this next exercise you have to play it 4 times. But we suggest you also set it to repeat 8 and 16 times and try playing it. Keep counting to keep track of where you are!
Take a look at the next bass rock tabs and sheet music. The first bar starts with a G. As you can see from the next bars this song is in G major. The G major scale is:
G A B C D E F#
As you can see this bass riff uses the notes from the G major scale. Try playing this exercise at different speeds.
Next try playing it while reading along with the sheet music. As a last exercise try playing it without look at the tabs and sheet music.
