With this update to Dolby Surround Tools, Digidesign has added compatibility with Pro Tools|24 MIX systems, and greatly increased the processing power of the Plug-In – now Dolby Surround Tools users can get up to 10 surround panners per DSP chip. In addition, Dolby Surround Tools 2.0 supports Gallery’s Axis™ Panner system, which includes software and the Axis Panner professional joystick. Axis software provides support for the use of any Axis compliant device, including Gallery’s MissionControl Panner and the JLCooper MCS Panner. Operating entirely within Pro Tools environment, not only does Dolby Surround Tools allow mixing 2 channel surround for television, interactive media such as video games, commercially released music and music video, all completely in the digital domain, but it also makes it possible to preview the result of matrix encoding ("4-2-4 monitoring") on discrete four-channel elements (left, center, right, surround) that will subsequently be combined with other elements during the final mixing for feature film soundtracks.
