Bard College Music Program six concerts during the month of December

The Bard College Music Program will present six concerts during the month of December, ranging from music of the Renaissance to modern chamber compositions. All programs are open to the pubic without charge.

On Thursday, December 5, at 8:00 p.m., the Bard College Chamber Singers, conducted by James Bagwell, will perform spiritual music from the early Renaissance composer John Taverner and from contemporary English composer John Tavener. The program will be held in the Chapel of the Holy Innocents.

On Wednesday, December 11, in the Old Gym, at 9:00 p.m., the Thurman Barker Quartet (guitarist James Emery, pianist Rob Schwimmer, bassist Jerome Harris, and percussionist Barker) will perform music from Barker's recent release, Time Factor.

On Thursday, December 12, in Olin Hall, at 8:00 p.m., the annual December Gala Concert will feature performances by a student percussion ensemble and the Bard College Jazz Ensemble, both under the direction of Thurman Barker, as well as a performance by the Bard College Electro/Acoustic Ensemble, directed by David Behrman.

On Saturday, December 14, in Olin Hall, at 8:00 p.m., the Bard College Community Chorus, conducted by James Bagwell, will perform the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

On Tuesday, December 17, in Olin Hall, at 8:00 p.m., the Bard College Community Orchestra will perform music of Bach, Prokofiev, and Beethoven. Guest artists include flutist Patricia Spencer and harpsichordist Frederick Hammond. The orchestra is conducted by James Bagwell.

On Thursday, December 19, in Bard Hall, at 8:00 p.m., the Da Capo Chamber Players and the Colorado Quartet, artists in residence at Bard, will perform new compositions and orchestrations by Bard student composers. Joan Tower, chair of the Music Program, is coordinating the concert.
