Korg D1600 enhances SONICFLOOd live performance
Since their rousing entrance onto the music scene, popular Christian music band SONICFLOOd have enjoyed number one songs on the CCM charts, a Dove Award-winning RIAA certified gold record (over 500,000 units sold) and a recent GRAMMY nomination. SONICFLOOd is currently on tour in support of their latest album, Resonate. Along for the ride is a piece of equipment that has become an indispensable element of their performance - the Korg D1600 digital recorder.
While SONICFLOOd finds the Korg D1600 to be well-suited for recording demos, they are using it to enhance their entire live performance. Drummer Brett Vargason extols the virtues of the D1600 on stage: "We use it to run loops, background vocals and a click for me, but it's an integral part of our show because the songs don't start or end without the D1600. We really can't do the show without it. I put it right by me on the stage and I run it myself."
SONICFLOOd's unique application for the D1600 has sparked the interest of many a concertgoer. "We get a lot of questions about it," Vargason explains. "Many people who have bands will come up [after shows] and be like, 'We want to incorporate loops or put background vocals or string parts too.' We'll tell them this is a great way to do it - first thing you need to do is go buy a Korg D1600 and then take it from there."
Vargason sums up the versatility of the Korg D1600, "It's a flexible machine - it could run a live show and then you could go and do a record on it." Whether live or in the studio, he concludes, "It's a great way to incorporate loops or put in background vocals or string parts."
