Klark Teknik's latest box of digital wizardry, the DN9848 loudspeaker management system, will be one of the featured products at LDI. Recent success stories include a sale to Turkey's largest rental company, Staras, whose shows with the unit include Alanis Morissette, Natalie Cole and Enrique Iglesias. Jason Kelly, chief engineer for Staras described the DN9848s as "a godsend". The DN9848 packs four balanced analogue input channels and eight balanced analogue output channels into just 1U of rackspace, making the unit completely flexible for both FOH and monitoring purposes. Unlike dedicated processors from other manufacturers, the DN9848 is configurable for any loudspeaker system, making it a highly cost effective solution for companies with more than one brand of loudspeaker system in their portfolio. Fully programmable from the front panel or via remote control using the standard RS-232 and 485 coms ports, the unit is also fully password-protectable to prevent unauthorised user intervention. Although the DN9848 utilises a fully digital processor, it maintains the operational paradigm as well as sonic integrity of a high quality analogue unit. However, the use of digital technology provides absolutely precise filter operation, unrivalled flexibility of routing, the ability to program delays into both the input and output channels, extensive equalisation on both the input and output channels, and of course programmability. Each input channel provides eight separately configurable, fully parametric equalisation stages that may be used for room EQ, up to 1000ms of delay, gain control and compression. Full metering with clip indication is available for all input and output channels. Each output channel provides configurable high and low-pass filters for setting the crossover characteristics as well as six further stages of fully parametric EQ that may be used to compensate for system or enclosure characteristics. Further delay of up to 300ms is available on each output in addition to gain control, muting and limiting.
