AES Launch Pad for Digidesign Surround Mixing and More
Los Angeles, CA — The AES show is the launch pad for Digidesign’s much anticipated Pro Tools version 5.1 and more. The upcoming release adds integrated Surround mixing to the Pro Tools TDM environment, and raises the bar for integrated audio production in music, post, broadcast and new media.
The new release dramatically expands the mixing and processing capabilities of Pro Tools. Major additions include fully integrated multi-channel editing, mixing and processing, with support for all popular surround formats. These new surround features will be available on currently supported control surfaces, and on Digidesign’s new Edit Pack™ option for ProControl® users. Edit Pack features two touch-sensitive motorized joystick panners, a QWERTY keyboard and trackball, dedicated edit buttons and encoders, and hi-resolution multichannel metering.
"Pro Tools has already changed the lives of many audio professionals by providing revolutionary breakthroughs in productivity, creativity, and cost-effectiveness," says Scott Dailey, Digidesign’s Vice President of Product Marketing & Business Development. "With Pro Tools 5.1, the dream of a single solution for integrated recording, sequencing, editing and automated surround mixing is now a reality for music, post, broadcast and new media professionals."
A multitude of new editing and mixing enhancements will increase ease of use and functionality, including support for multichannel and stereo tracks and multiple levels of Undo. The MIDI sequencing capabilities of Pro Tools are enhanced by a new Event List Editor, among other new features.
Avid interoperability takes a large step forward with the addition of basic video editing to AVoption™ and AVoption|XL™, Avid Unity® support, native support for BWAV files and support for offline media. Digidesign’s MachineControl option has been enhanced with improved ballistics and support for 9-pin remote ‘slave’ mode for control of Pro Tools transport and track arming using external devices. A familiar feature for AudioVision owners, the new Universe Window within Pro Tools 5.1 TDM software provides quick and easy visual overview to a session.
"We're taking interoperability very seriously non-linear workgroups are beginning to redefine post-production workflows," continues Scott Dailey, "we’re excited to take a leadership role in this area."
Pro Tools AVoption and AVoption|XL users may now record and import multiple Avid-format video clips with the enhanced ability to move, slip, delete and copy. A new integrated Import Track feature offers smooth session interchange of all track components, mixer settings, Plug-In settings and automation data. Transferring media and sessions between systems is made simple with the addition of a new unique file identification scheme for automatic resolution of file reference and location.
"We are very proud of this release. It represents the next major step for Pro Tools", said Wendy Abowd, Pro Tools Product Line Director. "We have increased ease of use and functionality overall, while also making significant additions to each of the major application areas for Pro Tools."
Digidesign will also be showing the latest addition to the TDM Plug-In family — Reverb One™. Designed to the highest sonic standards, its extensive set of sound-shaping tools and intuitive interface allow complete control of reverb characteristics. Reverb One is well suited for any musical or sound design application, and compares favorably to any software or hardware reverb processor on the market today.
Finally, this fall, Digidesign will be making available a fully functional version of Pro Tools 5.0 software for Free download. This version will feature eight audio tracks, 48 MIDI tracks, and two channels of I/O using standard Sound Manager or WAVE drivers on any third-party hardware.
Digidesign expects a release date for PT 5.1 sometime late in the fourth quarter of 2000 or early 2001.
Digidesign is pleased to announce the release of Reverb One. A world-class reverb processing plug-in for Pro Tools TDM, Reverb One is the first reverb plug-in to match the sonic qualities of today's most expensive hardware units. Making use of Pro Tools MIX DSP power and the familiar controls found on reverb hardware units, this new plug-in allows users to create a wide and rich range of new reverb sounds. Dedicated to a single MIX chip, Reverb One makes full use of the DSP processing cycles of Pro Tools. The painstaking development behind Reverb One results in a lush range of ambience. With fully automated real-time processing of all parameters, multiple use on Pro Tools|24 MIX systems, and inexpensive pricing, Reverb One elevates beyond the limitations of traditional hardware reverb units.
Simple, yet extensive, presets are easily manipulated from an intuitive user interface. A single window provides all the settings, a continuously updating and interactive reverb envelope display, and online help for all parameters. Unique to Reverb One is a set of software shaping tools that allow users to customize the characteristics of the reverberant space to match their needs. Equalization, modulation, decay optimizations and room reflections help modify the character and ambience of the reverb. A wide range of presets provides the user with a comprehensive palette of reverb programs. From a small, natural and clear ambient to hard unnatural echoes, the creative scope that Reverb One provides outstrips most units on the market today.
Reverb One is a cross-platform TDM plug-in for both Mac OS and Windows NT Pro Tools|24 MIX and MIXplus systems. Reverb one requires Pro Tools software version 5.0 or higher. Reverb One is available now from authorized Digidesign retailers at (INT’L US) $995.
