IBMA a huge success for D'addario & performing artists

It was another knock-down week for D’Addario and D’Addario Performing Artists at the 2000 International Bluegrass Music Association World of Bluegrass Week, held at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, KY from October 16 –27, 2000.

D’Addario’s booth attracted an unprecedented volume of traffic, generating interest in D’Addario strings and Planet Waves accessories. First Quality Musical Supplies, a Louisville-based mail-order and online dealer, and co-sponsor of the IBMA show with D’Addario, sold out of D’Addario EJ17 acoustic guitar strings, selling well over 500 sets at their booth. D’Addario banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass strings were also big sellers at the show, which attracted an estimated 7,500 people. Planet Waves spray polish became a sort of star itself, filling a void in the industry, and D’Addario’s Kaplan Golden Spiral bass strings drew intriguing questions from interested players. Additionally, the bluegrass world is anxiously anticipating several new D’Addario and Planet Waves products debuting in the next year.

At the IBMA Music Awards, D’Addario artists once again swept the event, winning in 11of the 16 categories, including Entertainer of the Year (The Del McCoury Band), Vocal Group of the Year (IIIrd Tyme Out), Instrumental Group of the Year (Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder), Female Vocalist of the Year (Rhonda Vincent), Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year (Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver), Instrumental Album of the Year (Bluegrass Mandolin Extravaganza, featuring David Grisman, Ronnie McCoury, Ricky Skaggs), Instrumental Performer of the Year: Bass (Missy Raines), Instrumental Performer of the Year: Dobro (Rob Ickes), Instrumental Performer of the Year: Mandolin (Ronnie McCoury), Emerging Artist of the Year (Nickel Creek), and Recorded Event of the Year (Bluegrass Mandolin Extravaganza, featuring David Grisman, Ronnie McCoury, Ricky Skaggs).

"We’ve been a sponsor of the IBMA show since its inception, and each year it gets bigger and bigger," noted D’Addario Brand Manager Peter D’Addario, who attended the event. "Bluegrass is a huge market and we’re very happy to be the number one string company with bluegrass players. This year, I was at sold-out bluegrass shows in New York City with over 1,500 fans. Bluegrass isn’t only a regional thing, it’s international."
