Sonorus enters at the top of the digital audio interface domain with the release of STUDI/

New York, NY — At the NAMM Show ’97 New York-based Sonorus, Inc. announced the release of STUDI/O TM. Establishing a new level of performance for PC-based Digital Audio Workstations, STUDI/O — a 16-channel digital audio interface for Windows 95-based PCI computers — will retail for less than a thousand dollars.
STUDI/O will allow recording engineers and home-studio owners to input/output 16 channels of audio in parallel from the PC to a pair of Alesis ADAT’s using standard fiber-optic cables. The supplied software drivers are compatible with existing Windows audio devices so STUDI/O is compatible with most Windows-based DAW editing software.

STUDI/O includes two 8-channel Alesis ADAT optical interfaces and an 18-bit stereo analog monitor output. For mastering applications, one or both ADAT interfaces can be software-configured for optical SPDIF input and/or output, including sample rate conversion, for connection to DAT machines or high-performance converters.

Marc Lindahl, Vice President of Engineering at Sonorus cites mother necessity as the catalyst for STUDI/O’s invention. When asked why he designed STUDI/O he says, "I wanted one for my studio." Using Motorola’s latest digital signal processor, the DSP56301, and reprogrammable logic technology, STUDI/O brings a five-fold reduction in DAW system costs. "Why pay for more converters when you already have eight (8) in each ADAT?"

STUDI/O will be available this summer for $989US.
