Basic Audio Mastering: Clicks and Pops

Clicks, spikes and pops are also a type of noise, but we'll need to cover that separately because they usually have a very different source and also a different method to clean up the track during the audio mastering and editing process.

First of all there are different software plugins available, or maybe in your audio editing software, that do get the job done. However these are algorithms that are fixed, they do not remove any possible type of click, pop or noise.

A click, spike or pop can be caused by anything and shouldn't be in there in the first place. Any recording or mixing engineer would try to do a retake of the recording, use another part or find another way to end up without the click or spike.
