Yamaha DJX Portable Keyboard:
|
An awesome keyboard. (I actually should have given it a "9" though). Very good for the $250. Here are my views on some of the DJX features/areas:
1. Controls-lots of control over your sound for a sub-$300 keyboard. There's cutoff and resonance, the most fun, not something you'd expect in a keyboard aimed at home users. Very fun. Also, you'll find pan, modulation, pitch bend, bass boost, attack, release, arp speed, etc. Yamaha also throws in a "Groove" knob.
2. Interface-pretty good, but sometimes quite limiting. A lot of features/controls are hidden under complex menus (e. G. DSP, etc. ), which can make it hard to use live at times. However, Yamaha throws in some very cool ways of accessing and using the controls-a very useful ribbon controller can control 15 variables, including an interesting self-explanatory one, which the keyboard calls "Turntable". There is an assignable knob (although more would be helpful) and a pitch bend control.
3. Voices/Styles/Sounds-Very good for what is generally a home keyboard. Dance, rap, techno, etc. styles are nice. The DJX has 283 voices, 128 of which are general MIDI, and the rest many "dance" voices, including some good analog ones, as well as voice samples, drum loops, etc.
4. DSP/arpeggiator/reverb/etc. -The DJX offers quite a few DSP effects. Many when used are often very subtle, however, although there are many exceptions-I like the "DelayLCR" and "AutoWah" DSP effects. There's a nice choice of reverb effects, which are much less subtle than the DSP effects, and the DJX also throws in chorus and flange modes as well.
5. MIDI-haven't tried it yet but will soon
6. Other features-6-second sampler (not very good, but better than nothing), adjustable touch response, sequencer (haven't used it, probably not very useful in such a keyboard, and probably some others as this keyboard has many features

Yamaha DJX Portable Keyboard: I like it
|
By: D.C., rated the DJX Portable Keyboard: ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ |
I have had the djx for about two and a half years now and I have had no problems using it. I would have learned how to use it a lot faster if I had just read the owners manual first. I have made plenty of songs so far and they all have great sound quality. The only thing I don't like is the the fact that there's no modulation wheel and the touch sensitivity is kind of akward at times. Other than that I don't think you can beet this keyboard within the price range. I hope yamaha makes a djx3. I have read reviews about the djx2 and I don't plan on buying that keyboard at all. I hope this review has helped someone
