Yamaha expands concert series snare drum line-up
Five Concert Series snare drums are now available from Yamaha Percussion, each with a quality sound designed for concert use. The two newest additions are the 14" x 5-1/2" (CSS-1455) and 14" x 6-1/2" (CSS-1465) steel shell models. Perfect for all-around concert applications, they feature a special black finish and three air holes in the shell to create a rich, controlled tone. The snare system features smooth and quiet strainers with vertical adjustment on both sides for precise adjustment of snare alignment and tension, and hard, high-carbon steel wire snares for bright, delicate response.
For a deep, rich sound, a 14" x 6-1/2" model (CSM-1465) is available featuring 6-ply maple shell construction. The 14" x 5-1/2" copper shell model (CSC-1455) boasts a balanced tone that combines the brightness of steel with the fullness of brass. Offering a bright, focused concert sound with sensitive response and cutting projection the 13" x 4-1/2" model (CSB-1345) uses 6-ply birch shell construction. These three models feature extended, steel cable snares that balance sensitivity with clear articulation at all dynamic levels.
"We found that many drums on the market lose their clarity and snare-sound separation at higher dynamics," says percussion product manager Steve Anzivino. "By testing these drums with professional percussionists in venues ranging from high school auditoriums to world-class concert halls, we found a combination of specifications that provide crisp sensitivity at pianissimo levels, and clear definition at fortissimo levels."
Other features include a smooth and quiet strainer system with vertical adjustment on both sides and small body lugs to enhance shell vibration. The wood shell models feature a Natural Vintage finish that seals the shell from humidity variations, and provides increased dynamic range and sustain.
