Crash Course for Yamaha DTXPRESS
LOS ANGELES–Since its first publication in 1996, The Drum Set Crash Course by renowned drummer Russ Miller has been a favorite for beginning artists who want to learn the essential foundations and grooves they’ll need for professional gigs. Now, Miller has updated the book to interact with the unique capabilities of the Yamaha DTXPRESS electronic drum set. The Drum Set Crash Course DTXPRESS Edition, available through Warner Bros. Publications and Yamaha Corporation of America, includes a CD-ROM packed with MIDI files for more than 60 drum set grooves and 18 songs. Unlike traditional "play-along" learning systems, the DTXPRESS lets players control tempos and mute tracks for customized learning. "The DTXPRESS version of his tested educational book is very exciting," says Jerry Andreas, marketing manager, Yamaha drums. "The CD-ROM included in this version of the Crash Course provides the player with a totally new method of learning." The DTXPRESS is an electronic drum set that offers 10 trigger inputs, more than 1,000 voices including options such as bass, brass and strings and on-board sequencing. The DTXPRESS Host Connector allows for direct serial connection to a Mac or PC, for playback of any MIDI file without a MIDI card. By listening along to selected tracks, a learning drummer can hear how a particular track, such as the bass line, relates to the drums. As with any use of the DTXPRESS, the user can listen through headphones without disturbing those nearby. The Drum Set Crash Course DTXPRESS Edition is just the first of many educational materials Yamaha intends to develop exclusively for the DTXPRESS. Russ Miller, a Yamaha artist, began drumming professionally at age 15. He has worked with a wide range of artists including The Fifth Dimension, Debbie Gibson, The Bee Gees and Ray Charles. Featured on more than 80 albums, his work can also be heard in television commercials, Fox News themes and films such as Daylight, Dr. Dolittle and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
