Yamaha upgrades drum hardware hi-hat, cymbal and snare stands 700, 800 and 900 Series
Just as cabling is the most critical—if unglamorous—component of any piece of electronic gear, hardware is an equally important element for the proper operation and maintenance of a drum set. Yamaha Drums answers the increasing demands of players and music dealers with upgrades to its 700, 800 and 900 Series hardware at Summer NAMM 2001.
Manufactured in the renowned Yamaha Motors facility in Jakarta, Indonesia—known worldwide for its quality assembly—the hardware has been converted to a "system," with more interchangeable pieces and stands. With more aggressive pricing, the new entries are ideal for additions or upgrades to any kit, and include improvements in the areas of hi-hat, cymbal and snare stands.
"Yamaha has a history of innovative, long-lasting, and durable hardware," states Jerry Andreas, Drum marketing manager, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "Yamaha felt the need for upgrades not only because of market demand or competitive pricing, but because of our commitment to new technologies in all areas of drum manufacturing as well."
Upgrades to the HS-740 hi-hat stand include the addition of an improved spring tension adjustment, complete with 11 increments. The new spring system features a chrome-plated spring that pushes rather than pulls, allowing for quick and precise adjustment, and delivering a smooth, quiet performance.
Cymbal stands (700, 800 and 900 Series) now contain a new tilter mechanism, which provides precise adjustment of the boom arm's angle. The boom arm may be fixed in place with a wing bolt, while a memory clamp prevents rotation and offers easy positioning. A new offset tilter folds parallel to the pipe for safe storage and transport. In addition, all cymbal stand diameters are now consistent, allowing them to be interchanged with tom holders, giving drummers further options to customize their setup.
The SS-940 snare stand improvements include four arms with thick, hard rubber cradle covers, which provide easier positioning. The SS-840 snare stand includes an in-line tilter that centers the weight of the snare drum and provides maximum stability.
"All improvements to the 700, 800 and 900 Series hardware lines were designed to meet the ever-changing needs and styles of drummers," adds Dave Jewell, Drum product manager. "Due to the fact that Yamaha makes ALL hardware models at Yamaha facilities, the quality control is unsurpassed by any other hardware on the market."
