New percussion accessories from Yamaha

GRAND RAPIDS, MI. Today's percussionists have a variety of specific needs, and Yamaha Corporation of America's Band & Orchestral Division addresses them with the introduction of several new percussion accessories. Made from the highest quality materials, the accessories offer percussion artists everything from improved instrument life to better, richer sound.

"Yamaha takes the same pride in its percussion accessories that it does in all its instruments," said Joel Tetzlaff, Percussion Accessories product specialist. "From students to pros, percussion artists have a variety of specific needs, and how well those needs are addressed can make or break their performing experience. With these products, we've got them covered."

The Rim Saver™ helps preserve bass drum hoops or rims in two different ways.
The Rim Saver™ (RS-1632) helps preserve bass drum hoops or rims in two different ways. During play, the lightweight extruded aluminum Rim Saver protects new or used rims from mallet hits and clicks. And when a rim has fractured or broken, a different combination of hardware—all provided—lets an artist drill the rim, install the Rim Saver and get through the gig. Available in one-size fits all, the Rim Saver is currently shipping.

The Professional Series Mallets™ (MP-01 through MP-05) bring the fruits of three years' research and development to the local music store. With a special semi-flexible Birch handle and unique mushroom shape yarn, today's marimba players will find them a perfect match for Yamaha Rosewood Series marimbas.

"The balancing and weight of these mallets produces an unmatched depth of sound," said Yamaha percussion artist Giff Howerth. "You will notice the different feel and quality of sound immediately." The Professional Mallet Series is currently available.

Two-Tone Mallet Series
Marimbists will also appreciate the new Two-Tone Mallet Series. Replacing the Virtuoso Series two-tone MV-4000S and MV4000H models, the new mallets come with either a special Birch handle (MTB-10) or a thicker rattan handle (MTR-10). The two-tone models achieve a perfect combination of sounds with a very distinct hard and soft timbre. The series is currently available.

Also making their debut are Yamaha's Portable Bass Stands, which reduce weight compared to previous models while adding stability. The BS-125 model folding stand has a wider stance, extruded aluminum legs and an adjustment system secured by metal wing bolts into notched receivers for consistently level settings. It adjusts to six playing heights to accommodate drums 22 in. to 42 in. Soft durable padding on the crossbars protects the drum from wear.

The steel-constructed BS-425 model rolling bass stand features a wider cradle with gripping rubber pads, lending superior stability to even the largest drums during play or transport. Its four large wheels lock in either the swivel position or the rolling position, keeping the stand secure and noise-free during performances. With a three-position height adjustment system for drums 22 in. through 42 in. and a convenient footrest for player comfort, plus a durable finish and a fully enclosed base, both models will be available in Summer 2001.

The Two Tier Crash Cymbal Holder (CCH2, with MS-925 model base) is another bonus for the percussionist. The new model is more compact in design and can be adapted to hold two pairs of cymbals. The CCH2 will be available in Summer 2001.

"The Clipper" YTC1 Triangle Clip
"The Clipper"—Yamaha's new triangle clip (YTC1)—is a great approach to an old problem that professionals and students alike will appreciate. It mounts a triangle directly to the front of a music stand, where players can open it and hold the instrument in playing position with one hand. It's short enough not to interfere with page turns, and its secure string mount allows the triangle to vibrate freely. The Clipper is available now.

Finally, a Concert Snare Mute that is true to its title! The secret behind the MU-SNARE model is pure German felt, which is very quiet and absorbs unwanted overtones from any concert snare. The string is also quiet, and keeps the mute securely attached to the drum where it is neither lost nor in the way. The mute can be positioned in a number of places for a variety of sounds and timbres. The Concert Snare Mute is available now.

Also new to the Yamaha accessory lineup are the Virtuso Series Mallets, which match the popular Virtuoso mallet heads to Yamaha's special semi-flexible Birch shafts after direct requests from customers. All models are currently available; the MVB-4010, -4020, -4030, -4040, -6040, -6050, -8040, -8060 and -8080.

Finally, band and corps members can get a grip with the new Marching Bass Mallet Holder (MBMH-2), designed to keep extra bass mallets in easy reach right on top of the drum. Made with plastic, the sturdy, lightweight holder makes switching mallets quick and quiet. The item comes with strong adhesive that will keep it in place for years of service, but also includes drill holes for players who want to mount it to the drum permanently. Currently available, the Yamaha Bass Mallet holder can carry up to three extra pairs of mallets.
