Yamaha introduces multi-timbre marching snare drum News date: 20001224 Posted by: Musiciansnews.com
After three years of extensive testing and refining with the help of top drum corps, schools and pipe bands, Yamaha has introduced its Multi-Timbre Snare Drum. The MTS is based on the highly acclaimed Sforzando marching snare drum, but incorporates an additional snare system underneath the top head that adds a unique musical component for both indoor and outdoor marching activities.
A patent-pending design uses steel cable snares for a balance of crisp articulation, solid projection and bright tone. A smooth throw-off allows players to switch between the main snare drum sound and the MTS unit sound. When the MTS unit is engaged, snare sound and response are amplified at all dynamic levels. The initial offering will be based on the 14-inch SFZ model (MS-9214). A 13-inch version will soon follow, and retrofit systems are planned so that an MTS unit can be installed in an existing SFZ snare drum.
