Yamaha Debuts 13-in. Multi-Timbre Snare Drum at Winter NAMM 2001
News date: 20010011 Posted by: Musiciansnews.com

Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, is proud to announce the introduction of the 13-in. MTS™ marching snare drum at Winter NAMM 2001. The MTS-9213 model is lighter than its 14-in. predecessor, and can achieve a higher fundamental pitch with a controlled sound for precision on the field or indoors.

For enhanced snare response and additional sound color, the exclusive MTS system features an additional snare unit underneath the top head with an on/off lever for fast, easy switching between sounds. Not only can the player choose from among four combinations of sounds, but with the top snare engaged, multiple "zones" allow creative play on the batter head.

"Now that both the 14-in. and 13-in. MTS models are available, composers and players have even more choices to ideally meet their musical requirements," says Steve Anzivino, Percussion product manager, Band & Orchestral Division.

As with the 14-in. version, the 13-in. model is based on the time-tested designs of the SFZ series snare drums. The MTS-9213 features a 6-ply Birch shell for a clear attack with body, Yamaha's exclusive Air-Seal System™ construction for a consistently round shell and pure tone, an extra-thick suspension ring, die-cast high-strength aluminum rims, stabilizer power posts to maintain alignment of the tube lugs, and a strainer system for quick and easy bottom head changes.
