New Marching Percussion accessories from Yamaha
New marching percussion accessories from Yamaha include: two Precision™ series marching drumstick models; a new Cookie™ model tenor mallet; a line of four Corp Timpani™ outdoor timpani mallets; and four Chop Block™ series drum pads.
Two years of research and development went into the development of the Precision 720 (YS-720) and Precision 655 (YS-655) marching drumsticks. Each stick uses three different tapers for exceptional balance and response. "With these sticks, you can achieve an articulate sound from the drum, yet also have the projection and body to play through the drum. These sticks play themselves," said product specialist Joel Tetzlaff. "They feel great whether using them on a drum or a pad." The 720 was designed in conjunction with the Yamaha SFZ snare drum for outdoor use, while the 655 was designed with a duel purpose: as an indoor stick or as a junior marching stick.
The new YTM-301 Cookie mallet design features a special sponge grip that makes performing in any condition very comfortable, and reduces slippage from moisture and perspiration. The aluminum shaft features a thicker wall that is three times stronger than that of its predecessor.
Reflecting a design philosophy of durability, projection and playability, the Corps Timpani series mallets have been developed for the rigors of outdoor performance. The legato and general models feature durable, synthetic felt heads treated with Scotch Guard® for moisture resistance. For optimum tone and projection, the staccato model features a perfectly shaped felt ball and the wood model features a very large ball. All models feature non-tapered birch shafts and weighted heads.
The Chop Block practice pads are available in four different models for the serious percussionists. One of the pads has a subtle snare sound quality that emulates a real drum. The two 7" models are available either in a double-sided version (PP-100) or a one-sided pad with mount (PP-110). The two 9" models are available in a double-sided version (PP-200) or a one-sided snare pad (PP-250) with the subtle snare sound. All pads use a medium-soft, navy rubber surface, while the two-sided pads use a hard, black rubber surface opposite.
