I play classical music only and have recently moved to an apartment building. I'm interested in buying a digital piano and the only things I care about are the authenticity of both the sound and action. I'm definitely in the below $2000 category.

The last time I thought about buying one of these (five years ago or so) I tried out a number of them in showrooms, but didn't find any really satisfactory--especially the action.
Any suggestions??

There are three that I have played and found to have a good action and good sound. Yamaha makes good household electric pianos. Alesis has an 88 key synthesizer (Q88) with good sounds as well, but a lighter hammer action. I settled on the Korg N1. It has a heavier action, but a real key action and has delicious stereo piano sounds. It also has compelling string sounds and many others. The latter two require a sound system. I simply play through my stereo or use headphones. Good luck.
