I am completely new to turntables so as you can imagine, I know nothing about them. My question is whether or not any turntables can be hooked up to a normal hi-fi system via AUX wires I. E the red and white wires. Any information is appreciated

In general yes. Most, if not all turntables use standard line out audio cables. Most other music equipment also uses standard line out and line in audio connections.

Some turntables do offer digital ins and outs but those always have standard line in and out as well
