All,

I would like to purchase a new mandolin in the $600-$700 range. What mandolin would be my best buy in that price range?

Being a new member, I'm not sure yet how old your posting is, asking the question about purchasing a Mandolin, but. . . . . .

If you haven't bought one yet, there is nothing wrong with spending as little as $500. 00 - $800. 00 for an adequate Mandolin to start learning on.

You're gonna find that there are a bunch of "Bill Monroe wannabe's" out there, who will spend anywhere from $10,000. 00 - $25,000. 00 or more on a 1923 Gibson Lloyd Loar, so don't be freaked out by that.

Someday, if you become rich and famous on the Manodlin and you want one of those, then by all means, go for it. But you could spend your entire life on some of the following brands, and do just fine:

Washburn
Kentucky
Fender
Epiphone
Morgan Monroe
The Loar (Don't confuse this with a Gibson)

Sometimes you will see an instrument hanging in a music store and you'll pick it up and play it, and you can just tell by the sound and the feel that it is truly "a piece of junk" and you don't need a heck of a lot of experience to know that.

Lemme know if you are stuck on a choice, and I'll give you my most objective opinion possible, to help out.
