Yamaha Upgrades Classic APX Guitar LineIn an effort to keep abreast of the latest in guitar component technology, Yamaha Corporation of America, Guitar Products, has upgraded its classic APX line of acoustic and acoustic-electric instruments in time for Winter NAMM 2001. With their characteristic thin bodies and fast necks, the APX Series has provided guitarists with superior tone and response for over a decade. Whether played acoustically or through the internal electronics, the APX has been a favorite among serious professionals onstage and in the studio.
Improvements include a new preamp design, an additional 5mm in body depth, an EMF pickup for the APX5NA and APX9NA models, and a two-way pickup (mic and piezo) for the APX9C/9NA. The upgraded units maintain the APX body style: extra-large, jumbo frets make the APX easier to play lead or solo; and an oval soundhole provides easy access to the 22 frets.
"Players have always admired the unique styling of the Yamaha APX Series," says David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group. "With the upgrades, the APX Series is ready for a whole new generation." Sixteen new acoustic and acoustic-electric models are scheduled for release in February 2001, sporting a variety of colors and finishes. Each features scalloped braces to improve acoustic output, and construction utilizing solid Spruce, Rosewood, Indian Rosewood and Satin Sycamore.
