Yamaha's latest compass guitar entry gliters in nothern lights
Yamaha Corporation of America is proud to announce the debut of the CPX15N Compass North at Winter NAMM 2000, the final entry in the distinguished Handcrafted Compass Series of acoustic/electric guitars. Representing the highest point on the compass rose, the limited edition Compass North completes the circle traced by the Compass West, South and East models previously introduced.
Drawing its aesthetic inspiration from the Far North, the CPX15N is a stunning beauty that epitomizes Yamaha’s age-old tradition of craftsmanship and luthery, augmenting it with the finest materials and techniques currently available. With a solid Sitka Spruce top, back and sides of Bleached Sycamore and a White "Snowburst" finish, the guitar invokes scenes of snowy tundra. Exquisite appointments including whales tail abalone inlays on the bound Ebony fingerboard, and a mother-of-pearl and abalone rosette reflecting the never-setting Midnight Sun complete the image. The bound Rosewood headstock features gold machines and a compass logo in exotic materials.
"This new, final point on the Compass Series, the CPX15 North, rounds out Yamaha’s offering of Handcrafted acoustic/electric masterpieces for the serious professional," states David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "The finish is subtle and beautiful, one of Yamaha’s finest, and the guitar sounds extraordinarily natural when amplified or recorded. Fans of totally unique guitars will love this one."
The CPX15N offers the unique single-cutaway body shape characteristic of the Compass Series and delivers transparent sonic quality–articulate highs and rich, resounding lows. The guitar features an in-bridge L.R. Baggs bar sensor piezo pickup with a condenser microphone mounted under the bridge plate, Yamaha’s exclusive two-way design, giving the guitar a bright, clear electric sound which is ideal for the professional touring or recording musician. The CPX15N began delivery in January, 2000.
"With a solid Sitka Spruce top, this guitar is designed to sound great acoustically, as well as when plugged in," comments Gary Cook, Guitar product manager. "More and more professionals are turning to Yamaha for a great look and sound. The built-in blend control allows players to mix the L.R. Baggs piezo pick-up and condenser mic."
In related Yamaha news, the Compass North guitar will be prominently featured in the January 2000 issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine, helping to launch its 10th Anniversary Celebration. Two special edition models have been commissioned by the magazine to be specially built by Yamaha. One is destined for Acoustic Guitar’s own museum-quality collection. The other will find its way into the hands of a very lucky reader who wins it in a contest sponsored by the magazine.
The CPX15N will be limited in production for the U.S. Less than 100 guitars will be offered in 2000 so the guitar is sure to become a highly prized collectable.
