Les Paul Indian guitar commemorates new Indian Chief motorcycleBikers, rev your guitars. Gibson Custom is celebrating the new Indian Chief motorcycle with a limited-edition, Les Paul Indian guitar. The two-tone guitar from Gibson's Custom, Art & Historic division has many of the same stylized features as the classic Indian Chief, including the signature war bonnet headdress, flowing chrome detailing and six custom color combinations, including a red/black metallic scheme reminiscent of the first Chiefs produced in the 1920s.Kenny Olson, lead guitarist for Kid Rock and aficionado of classic motorcycles, played the new Les Paul Indian guitar on the mtvICON:Aerosmith show and was impressed with its performance. "It sounded like a seasoned Les Paul, with a fat bottom end and bright, perky highs," Olson says. "There's nothing like it, it's a beautiful piece of art. I was glad to be a part of it. I got a lot of phone calls after the show, telling me how cool it looked and how great it sounded." A custom-made lacquered display wall cabinet, leatherette case with chrome hardware, Indian Motorcycle concho strap, and Certificate of Authenticity enhance the guitar's collectibility. Fine detailing includes the inlaid chrome die cast headdress and chrome fender molding on the body, "Indian" mother of pearl script on the fingerboard, engraved truss rod cover, and bead blasted back plates. Only 100 made-to-order Gibson Indian guitars will be produced initially. All of the Chief's two-tone color combinations will be offered: red/black, blue/silver, black/cream, crimson/cream and copper/black. The 2002 Chief sports a new Indian Powerplus 100 V-Twin engine, the first engine designed by Indian in 50 years and, at 100 cubic inches, it is the largest American OEM V-Twin engine. The signature serrated, billet-aluminum rocker boxes and black, rounded cylinders harken to the glory days of Indian's 102-year history. "The Indian Motorcycle and Gibson Guitar partnership is a natural. Both brands have 100-plus year histories of classic design and outstanding performance," says Fran O'Hagan, Indian Motorcycle Sr. VP of Marketing and Product Management.
