Reading guitar tablature is not difficult at all, that's why it was invented in the first place. The main reason guitarist prefer it is because it is much easier to read than normal sheet music for guitar.

The biggest problem when you try to learn reading the classic sheet music is that you still have to figure out how to play it on guitar. Sounds strange doesn't it? Let me explain.

When you try to read sheet music after minutes of silence you might figure out you have to play an E note followed by a G note and an A note. Great you think now lets play it on my guitar. Hmmm, now you run into a problem. The guitar allows you to play these same notes on different positions on the guitar! A piano for example only gives you one option for each note so you know with key to hit, but a guitar can have the same note on each string, so you can have up to six possibilities! Try to figure out which to play.

So to make life a little easier Guitar Tab was invented. Lets start with what guitar tablature looks like and how to read basic notes from the guitar tab.
