Holding the Violin Bow
Holding the violin bow is one of the most difficult techniques for a beginning violin player. So this will not be easy for you.
There are actually many, many comments, tips and tricks for holding the violin bow, and there are even different techniques, or styles for holding the bow, some of which I'll cover later on. But for now let's keep it easy, you fingers, wrist and hand have to learn to adjust to this unnatural position anyway.
So what can I say about the position for now? First let's look at this short video clip.

This is just a starting position. How you exactly hold the violin bow depends on the bow, but more on the size of you hands and the length of your fingers. For example, if you are a tall person you probably have long fingers, but there's also a difference in length between fingers. Some people's index and middle finger are very similar in length, but others have a much longer middle finger. So everything depends on your hand, but what should you be looking for in getting the right position? Here are the basics when you start trying to hold the bow:
