Angel Mountain post-production facility Harrison Console to be installed
It's been a long road for Angel Mountain. Owner and chief creative force, Gary Sloyer, opened Angel Mountain for business in 1982 offering his services as a musician and composer, producing local artists while giving private music instruction on the side. Ten years later he left music instruction to dedicate his time to running and developing what has since become a thriving enterprise and a top-notch commercial post-production facility. Now in 2002, Angel Mountain has purchased their first Harrison console to be installed in a ground-up facility designed with Martin Pilchner of Pilchner-Schoustal International Inc., acoustic design architects.
The large format Harrison digital SeriesTwelve with IKIS film mixing console will be installed in a 30 seat dubbing theater in the new facility. The single operator console contains twenty-two frame positions and spans over 13 feet. The console is setup with a single master section and will possess 192 automated inputs on 96 channels layered 2-deep over 48 touch-sensitive faders. Angel Mountains fully digital SeriesTwelve will be outfitted with 112 input sources available to the 672 x 672 digital TDM router along with a 48 x 16 summing/monitor matrix.
Located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, one hour west of New York City and one hour north of Philadelphia, Angel Mountain occupies an advantageous position in the Northeast corridor. Their proximity to two major cultural centers offers many different opportunities for a full service facility that offers the right combination of services.
In addition to the mix theater, the newest Angel Mountain facility will contain three control room facilities each with 5.1 surround capability. It will include a music production room, a post suite with a Foley stage, a large scoring stage, two composition suites, an editing master suite and 2 video graphic editing rooms. Equipment to be installed in the facility will be a fifty-fifty split between analog and digital formats to allow the versatility necessary to support an eclectic client base. A wing of the building will also be used to house the pro audio retail business that Angel Mountain supports in addition to audio and video production services.
Says Sloyer:
About three years ago I realized that we would soon be running out of space. So I got together with Martin Pilchner and we began planning an expansion. It soon became apparent that the way to approach the project was to design from the ground up. We began playing with space without worrying about structural limitations. When it came time to make it a reality we had to make some compromises, but even then there were some unexpectedly good results that came from that.
We also knew that we needed to build a legitimate facility that commanded immediate respect. So we called on Harrison. I knew a little of Harrison's reputation in the industry but I also saw that a small company had managed to carve itself a niche and was highly present in the film and post production industry. That said to me right away that Harrison makes an excellent product and I knew they made the console I wanted in the new theater.
When I called, Gary (Thielman Harrison's advanced products manager) was responsive and it was apparent that he knew what he was talking about. He was able to address all of the issues I brought up and offer solutions to them. I had complete confidence that Harrison would provide me with the console I needed and wanted. Of course it had excellent sonic quality and the board was highly intuitive and well laid out. But from the start I knew that if Angel Mountain bought a Harrison console, we would become part of the Harrison family. Having that relationship is important.
The console is scheduled to ship mid-November. Angel Mountain will be moving into the new facility in six to eight weeks according to the construction schedule.
