Focusrite Digidesign Platinum Range Penta mono/stereo preset compressor
Palo Alto, CA (June 1, 2001) — Digidesign®, a division of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), and Focusrite announce today that the newest member of the award-winning Focusrite Platinum Range — Penta — is expected to begin shipping later this month. Designed primarily for project studio applications and serious recording musicians, Penta is a 2U, 19" rack mount mono/stereo preset compressor that also includes a Class A mic/line/instrument preamp.
Penta's preamp is identical to the one used on the award-winning Platinum VoiceMaster and Digidesign's new Control|24 surface and includes phantom power as well as a high-pass filter. Preamp access is provided via a front-panel XLR mic/line input and 1/4" TRS jack for instruments such as guitar or bass. The optical compressor section features 16 editable presets that provide instant compressor configurations with the touch of a switch. Presets such as kick, bass guitar, piano, vocals, and more are optimized for specific recording and mixing tasks. However, users can also choose to start with these compressor settings and later edit to taste. Focusrite's unique TubeTran technology allows users to simulate the characteristics of tube based processors and Penta even includes width controls for stereo image enhancement. Extensive LED metering for input/output levels and compressor gain reduction is provided.
Penta's line-level inputs and outputs are provided on the rear of the unit and are available as either XLR or 1/4" TRS jacks. Operating levels can be switched between +4 dBu or -10 dBV. Optionally, customers can add a 24-bit, 96kHz A/D card to Penta for direct connection to devices such as digital audio workstations, DAT machines and CD-R.
Penta is expected to begin shipping this month and has an MSRP of $495 (USD). The optional 24-bit/96 kHz A/D board ship date is TBD at this time but expected to follow shortly after the release of Penta and will carry an MSRP of $250 (USD).
