System 6000 featured on MATRIX RELOADEDMatrix Reloaded may be the story about an illusionary world, but the box office receipts are incredibly real. The sequel to the 1999 sci-fi hit took in a record-breaking $158.3 million in its first 7 days of release. "Matrix Reloaded" also scored the biggest one-day opening in box office in US history.The score for the thrilling "Freeway Chase" scene for Matrix Reloaded was a collaborative effort of Don Davis, composer on the original Matrix and innovative electronic music composer Ben Watkins, know by his alter ego, Juno Reactor. While the films Directors Andy and Larry Wachowski initially invited Watkins out to Los Angeles for his electronic chops, Ben wasn't kept in his electronic suit and was given the opportunity to work with Davis on the full range of the score as well. Ben and Don also scored the edge-of your-seat "Burly Brawl", an excellent blend of the two composers styles. Along with "Burly Brawl" Watkins supplied 2 additional tracks on the soundtrack album, "Mona Lisa Overdrive" and "Teahouse" featuring and the traditional Taiko drummers, Gocoo. "I often engineer my personal projects but in this case I had to do so much writing that I felt it was best to bring in Greg Hunter, a British producer/engineer with credits that include work on Juno Reactor, Paul McCartney, Crowded House and Killing Joke ," said Watkins. "Greg and I loved the transparency of the reverbs in the System 6000. I especially appreciated the stuff Greg did with all the (Reflector) pre-delays with all these waves of delay rolling over you. Greg made some great presets and really got into the unit. My only regret was that it wasn't a Juno Reactor album track. Then I could have gone completely balmy with it! Watkins continued, "I am hoping to get one into the studio I just took over here in England, where I can sit down and work on it like a good synch. My overall impression of the System 6000 is it won't reveal all it secrets in one go, anything worth its weight in gold never does. This is something I would want to incorporate into my writing, not to just add a splash of reverb but to make it part of the whole process. When I am writing and have particular sound in mind, I am creating a landscape that I have to build. This is one of the building blocks that I need to consider. I have an Amek Media 51 that is a multi-channel console, so I being able to write with the System 6000 is going to be fantastic. We start soon on the next Matrix 3: "Revolutions" for release later this year. I can't wait to use the 6000 on that project as well." Under the Juno Reactor moniker Ben Watkins has produced five albums over eight years and his dramatic instrumentals have appeared on film soundtracks for punchy action movies like 'MORTAL KOMBAT' and 'VIRTUOSITY'. US television has also employed his musical talents for baseball, basketball, American football and grand prix auto racing. Ben also composed the score for the 1999 movie 'BEOWULF' starring Christopher Lambert. He also provided a staggering 18 hours of music for the Playstation 2 game "Mark of Kri".
