NHT A10 Pro Studio Monitor System
System Design Modular design incorporating a pair of 2-way acoustic suspension monitors and system-specific Control Amplifier. Driver Complement The A-10 employs a long throw 6.5 in. paper-cone woofer and a 1 in. soft-dome, liquid-cooled tweeter, both custom developed by NHTPro's engineers using proprietary computer modeling, and both fully magnetically shielded. The 1 in. ferro-fluid cooled, fabric dome driver utilizes a sophisticated "under-hung" motor design featuring large magnet structures, thicker top plates and shorter voice coils, all of which keep the voice coil in the linear magnetic field throughout the driver's excursion range. Benefits include less coil mass for improved transient and high frequency response and lower overall distortion. The paper-cone 6.5 in. woofer is a true high-compliance design ideal for air suspension systems. It also features a 2-layer voice-coil, wound on an aluminum former, which allows sustained high temperature operation. Enclosure The angled A-10 cabinets are manufactured using ¾ in. MDF (medium density fiberboard) bonded to high-pressure laminates both internally and externally, the combination of which provides not only a structurally rigid enclosure, but one that is fully acoustically neutral. The cabinets' inward-slanted front surfaces are built to deliver accurate spatial imaging across the full range of a surprisingly wide sweet spot. Externally, each A-10 enclosure features a power indicating LED on the front of the monitor, XLR connectors on the back, and matched impedance cables, for connection to its companion Control Amplifier, are supplied. A-10 Control Amplifier The A-10 Control Amplifier features dual-mono construction, with 2 fully discrete devices delivering power output of 150W RMS (300W peak) in a compact, efficient 2-rack-space enclosure. They've located all user controls on the front panel of the amplifier, making them easily reachable and instantly adjustable from the listening position — an ergonomic advantage to modular design. High Output, Low Distortion The rigors of professional audio require systems capable of long-term, high-level output without significant listener fatigue, of which distortion is a major component. Given that, NHT is proud to publish their loudspeaker distortion specifications: the A-10 system is capable of 116 dB short term SPL while maintaining an impressive THD specification of < 0.8% (90dB,100Hz 10kHz @ 1M). Room Boundary Proximity Control The A-10's Boundary control offers 2 positions for low frequency compensation, to adjust the system's bass output to reflect placement (a) near a room boundary or (b) in a "free space" position. This assures consistent, accurate bass response regardless of placement. Distance Proximity This 2-position control varies high frequency response from near-field to mid-field positions. This compensates for the higher ratio of reflected to direct sound as a listener moves further away from the monitor, assuring accurate system response at both listening distances. Switchable Input Sensitivity The A-10 Control amplifier provides a 5-position input sensitivity switch at +11dB, +4dB, -3dB, -10dB, and mute. This not only provides noise-free gain matching with virtually any output device, but allows the listener to easily turn off the monitors when other playback systems are desired.
