Meyer Sound MICA speakers at AES

Fall in Manhattan means cooling weather, falling leaves…and the Audio Engineering Society convention. The latter is an event always eagerly anticipated at Meyer Sound for the opportunity it presents to show the company’s products to, and interact with audio professionals at literally every level of technical knowledge, from cable jockey to chief engineer.

The upcoming 119th convention being held at New York’s Jacob Javits Center is of particular interest to the company, with AES’s increased focus on live sound. Meyer Sound comes to the show with a full slate of acclaimed products like the 2004 TEC award-winning MILO high-power curvilinear array and 2005 TEC award-nominated MILO 120 high-power expanded coverage loudspeaker, plus the newest talks of the town: the MICA compact high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker, 600-HP high-power subwoofer and Galileo loudspeaker management system.

The fast-growing popularity of the MICA loudspeaker has created substantial anticipation of its first New York showing. The newest and smallest member of the popular MILO family of loudspeakers, MICA provides a flexible system for mid-sized venues such as theaters and houses of worship, and can blend seamlessly with the MILO high-power curvilinear array as a fill system in larger venues.

The 600-HP subwoofer, also being shown in New York for the first time, has the same high size-to-power ratio of the larger 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofer, but is sized to be flyable as part of a MICA array using optional QuickFly rigging. The 600-HP also provides an ideal complement to systems composed of smaller Meyer Sound favorites such as the UPA-1P compact wide coverage and UPJ-1P compact VariO loudspeakers.

The Galileo loudspeaker management system and its cross-platform Compass control software will be demonstrated as the subject of one of several technical presentations that will be given at the booth.

Other presentations will include an introduction to MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction software, which allows users to make accurate predictions of how a Meyer Sound loudspeaker system will perform, as well as providing a variety of related functions such as calculating rigging weights. Meyer Sound technical personnel will be present throughout the show to conduct personal, hands-on demonstrations of MAPP Online, Galileo/Compass, and the SIM 3 audio analyzer.

Meyer Sound’s involvement with the AES convention isn’t limited to its booth, however. The company is one of the sponsors of “Surround Live III: Totally Surrounded,” a live sound symposium being held on Thursday, October 6 (the day before the convention formally opens) at the Manhattan Center.

Meyer Sound is also a Gold Sponsor of the 21st annual TEC (Technical Excellence and Creativity) awards being held at the Marriott Marquis the evening of Saturday, October 8. The company’s table at the awards ceremony is sure to be high-spirited (as usual), with the MILO 120’s nomination for Outstanding Technical Achievement, Sound Reinforcement Loudspeaker Technology. The nomination is the company’s 23rd in the 21-year history of the awards, and last year’s win by MILO in the same category was Meyer Sound’s fifth TEC award.
