If you have been around a little longer in the music industry singing with a tape or backing track is nothing strange. Most television performances are really just recorded sessions or for the most part. Getting a good live sound for 1 song is not really something most performers, artist, technicians and even television shows want to invest in. And do you as a viewer want to hear a bad quality song?
Although this example might upset some viewers, consider this, most television performances can not be done live because of the television and studio limitations.
