Yamaha introduces PSR160 and PSR262 portable keyboards
{PSR160.jpgr Most Affordable Keyboards Become More Educational, Hip and Better-Sounding. NASHVILLE–Leading trade and consumer magazines have always recognized Yamaha Corporation of America’s portable keyboards as superior, affordable musical instruments. With the introduction of the PSR160 and PSR262 at Summer NAMM 2000, the company’s traditional edge and strengthened leadership position become more apparent, with expanded features, improved sound quality and reasonable price points. The PSR160 and PSR262 will ship in the third quarter of 2000.
"The volume of portable keyboards produced by Yamaha worldwide, combined with more than 100 years of keyboard building, design heritage and world leadership in computer and music technologies, make products like the PSR160 and PSR262 possible," states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards. "The performance and value in these affordable Yamaha portable keyboards confirms the fact that quality instruments are now within the reach of almost every student and enthusiast."
{PSR262.jpgrThe PSR160 represents a breakthrough price point for a fully-featured, 49-key portable keyboard that is both stereo and MIDI capable. A backlit LCD display, new bass ports for improved sound and the new Yamaha Education Suite II complete the package.
The PSR262 contains all the features of the PSR160 , but is a full-sized keyboard with 61 keys. In addition, the PSR262 is touch-sensitive, resulting in keyboard behavior similar to a real piano.
A realistic piano sound is one of the most important features that customers look for in a portable keyboard. The PSR160 and PSR262 are the only keyboards in their price range to feature a stereo-sampled piano sound, usually reserved for more expensive professional keyboards. When users access the large piano-shaped button in the center of the front panel, the best piano sound is automatically chosen, the auto accompaniment is automatically turned off and the keyboard is placed in "full keyboard" mode, just like a real piano. A metronome-shaped button provides a built-in metronome for practice.
Many of the functions on the PSR160 and PSR262 have vocal cues that announce the function in English, literally "speaking" to the user. The built-in Yamaha Education Suite (YES) II contains both right-hand and left-hand exercises, a built-in chord directory and interactive functions that grade the playing of internal exercises. YES II will actually count down the beat, just as a teacher would. Just to make the learning more fun, there are even built-in games. It’s the next best thing to having a real teacher.
