Yamaha Clavinova CLP990 Sets the Digital Piano Standard

Yamaha announces the culmination of its exceptional CLP Series of Clavinova digital pianos with the debut of the new CLP990. The first true flagship for the CLP line, it carries forward the 900 Series' dramatic improvements in piano tone and cabinet styling, and adds expanded polyphony and piano sampling, a built-in floppy disk drive and a real wood Natural Keyboard™. The CLP990, which will ship in Spring 2001, is on display on the main floor at Winter NAMM 2001 and also in the E-Tainment area.

The CLP990 features sampling on an unprecedented level—all 88 keys are sampled five times. In addition, 80.4 MB of memory is devoted to the piano sound alone, and the instrument's total sample weighs in at 144 MB. The instrument also offers 192-note polyphony, plus 32-note polyphony for its 480 XG voices.

"From the moment a player touches its real wooden keys, to the last reverberation of the last incredibly lifelike note, the CLP990 will amaze performers and listeners at every level," says Yamaha Electronic Keyboard marketing manager Craig Knudsen.

In addition, the CLP990 features string resonance, internal flash memory for storing up to 800 KB of multiple songs, 50 preset songs with an included score book, and auxiliary jacks mounted toward the front, a bonus for users who place the instrument against a wall.

Available in dark Rosewood or Mahogany (CLP990M), the CLP990 is delivered completely assembled, with a color-matching bench.
