Yamaha celebrates 100 years with exquisite centennial piano
Yamaha celebrates 100 years with exquisite "centennial" piano LOS ANGELES–To celebrate a century of crafting the world’s finest pianos, Yamaha Corporation of America is proud to introduce at Winter NAMM 2000 a limited production of the Centennial Piano–a special-edition C3 Conservatory grand piano graced with nostalgic Victorian styling, a special Centennial Symbol mark and the flawless performance that has made all its predecessors famous. The Centennial Piano is the perfect marriage of historical elegance and state-of-the-art technological innovation in acoustic piano production. There may be no better emblem of Yamaha’s ongoing belief in innovation, improvement and product evolution. On the outside, the Centennial is a breathtaking conservatory grand in a Victorian Revival cabinet with inlaid flower embellishments and pinstriping. Its furniture-style mahogany finish evokes memories of the cherished turn-of-the-century pianos that were prevalent when Yamaha began to manufacture them. On the inside, the Centennial Piano is a fully modern conservatory grand piano encompassing Yamaha’s unequaled tone and touch. Its technically sophisticated design represents the culmination of generations of dedicated effort that have put Yamaha pianos in a class all their own. The Centennial Piano continues the dedicated pursuit of excellence found in the C3 grand piano: celebrated Yamaha action that has won acclaim from professionals the world over; and high quality construction crafted from the best materials, like the solid spruce soundboard and Yamaha’s patented aluminum alloy action rails. "The Centennial Piano is our way of thanking customers for a century of loyalty, and it’s a tangible expression of how proud we are–not only to have reached this 100-year milestone, but to have compiled such a record of excellence along the way," states Ray Reuter, Yamaha piano marketing manager. "Yamaha pianos won their first international awards as early as 1904, and from that time, have remained leaders in technology, beauty and sound. Our commitment to that leadership will continue into the new century." The intersection of modern and traditional touches in the Centennial Piano echoes the way each and every Yamaha piano is created. Yamaha leads the industry in bringing lasers, robotics and other advancements into the manufacturing process alongside skilled, traditional craftsmen—not in place of them. For example, keys that have been shaped by artisans are leveled with the aid of laser beams, and robots help skilled workers achieve consistency in assembling the highest-quality soundboards, frames and pins. In addition to the grand Centennial Piano, Yamaha will also offer the same marriage of modern technology and commemorative styling in an upright style with the U Series Centennial Piano. Devotees of Yamaha’s famous reproducing acoustic pianos can participate in the celebration with the Disklavier Pro DC3 Centennial, which adds digital recording and replay technology to a true acoustic piano, providing a uniquely effective, high-performance option for today’s most discerning musicians. All Centennial models include the same lavish aesthetic treatment as the C3 Centennial Piano and the technically superior performance of their conventional counterparts. Production of the Centennial Piano will begin in February, 2000. For more information on Yamaha Centennial Pianos, visit Yamaha at Winter NAMM 2000, Los Angeles Convention Center, Petree Hall;
