Digidesign SurroundScope Multi-Channel Metering Plug-In For Surround Sound Mixing
Digidesign, a division of Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), is proud to announce SurroundScope. SurroundScope is an important multi-channel monitoring tool for the new surround capabilities introduced with Pro Tools 5.1. For surround sound mixing within Pro Tools, SurroundScope offers an intuitive interface that accurately depicts what listeners will hear. SurroundScope offers a graphical display of surround positioning, phase metering and level metering for the signal level for each audio channel within the multichannel sound field.
The SurroundScope Plug-In can be inserted on a Pro Tools multi-channel track. Any audio that is routed through that multi-channel track can then be used as the output source material that is monitored by SurroundScope.
SurroundScope automatically detects the multichannel format of your Pro Tools track and places the channels in a circle around the surround display's center. Surround signals are displayed using a circular pattern that floats towards the energy displaced within the multi-channel space. As sound moves within each side of a multi-channel output, the surround display gives the user instant feedback as to a signals position within the surround field. A perfect circle in the center of the surround display denotes a perfectly centered surround signal while a signal that balloons toward the outer edges of the display indicates which channels emanate the strongest signal.
A phase meter comes with SurroundScope to make detecting out of phase signals simple and easy. Visual feedback on phase coherency gives instantaneous information on a perfect mono signal to completely out of phase signals. The phase indicator dot glows green when the signal is positively out of phase and red when the signal is negatively out of phase.
In addition to surround and phase displays, SurroundScope features a multichannel level meter. The multichannel level meter works on stereo tracks to the full eight channels of a 7.1 surround mix. SurroundScope gives accurate and easy-to-read decibel level readings for each channel of any multi-channel format, including readings for an LFE channel if one is present.
