Dave Jones Installs VTC Console
The latest to join the elite band of TL Audio VTC owners is Dave Jones, who has recently installed a 24 channel console in his own Buckinghamshire studio, courtesy of Bedford based dealer Creative Technologies. The console is partnering a Digidesign 001/Cubase VST recording system, and an impressive array of outboard gear including TL Audio C-1 and FAT-1 compressors.
Dave, whose fusion of dance music, jazz funk and soul is recorded under various aliases including Zed Bias, Phuturistix and Maddslinky, has also been up to his eyes in freelance production work, including clients such as Sweetie Irie, Ray Gaskins and Kevin Robinson - all of whom have recorded projects on the new VTC.
Having started his career through re-mix work for Whitney Houston, Gabrielle and Architects, Dave finalised a new publishing deal with EMI and this has led to the upgrading of his console and much of the studio. A MOBO Dance Star nomination last year for Best Garage Act also bought more artists beating a path to Daves door, hence the current manic recording schedule.
With the publishing deal I was determined to invest in some quality gear, and I was really sold on the whole idea of the VTC. I wanted to stay with an analogue console and I just love the VTCs simplicity and sound quality: it gives a warm glow to everything, particularly vocals and brass. With brass particularly I can now get a thick sound that I previously found so elusive, and with the VTC Ive finally lost my fear of over-EQing material - the console really lets me pile it on without destroying the sound.
With two more albums scheduled for release this year - one as Phuturistix on the Locked On label and the other as Maddslinky on Sirkus - it seems that Daves VTC is going to be kept busy for the foreseeable future!
