Songs are usually not written in sheet music, and for communication about songs band members also usually don’t use sheet music. It’s much easier to say to another band member what chord are you playing? Instead of saying can you write it down in sheet music for me?
Most songwriters use a chord sequence to write songs, and some songs can also be described by a chord sequence. Although this does not completely tell you how a song is played, it does tell you how the basic song works, sounds and is to be played.
