Spacing is very important in music. And in most songs and compositions you will find that harmonies are only used at certain points and not every note of a solo or vocal line is harmonized with a second or third voice.

In the next example only the last few notes are harmonized to create a strong end of the bar which can be used as an end point and to move on to the next part.
