Songwriting: creative Rhyming and Lyrics

Creativity is an important skill if you want to learn to write songs. Some, if not most people, who do not even try to write a song, play music or create something think creativity is a skill you are born with or not. In reality this is far from the truth. Creativity is like trying to solve a problem. And this can be anything, like getting a cup of coffee in the morning, you can learn it and it is an essential skill that makes it possible for a human to survive and live. You can learn to make a cup of coffee, get a partner that makes you a cup, drop in at your neighbor for a cup or drink one in at your local coffee shop.

Songwriting, and writing lyrics, is no different. You need to find a way to make it work. Some will simply give up after 1 or 2 tries, but if you stop after trying a few times you would have never learnt to walk, read, drive a car or make a delicious chocolate blue berry muffin. To learn to be creative is to use basic techniques and start trying things. What’s so great about songwriting is that most techniques are already there, you don’t need to invent them. There are millions of songs that show both the basic techniques, like simple rhyming, and more difficult techniques like complex structures and funny word changes.

Let’s take another look at a great way of playing, and learning to play with rhyme.
