writing Melody and Lyrics: a few examples

Although most songwriters and composers write lyrics and melodies separately, or at least think of them as two different things, they usually do write them at the same time. This has led to the misconception that they are written as one part by most beginning songwriters or musicians. Just like some still think that you need to write your chord sequences together with your melody.

Am | C | Dm | Em7 ||

As you should know the A minor scale uses the same notes as C major:

A B C D E F G

This means your melody should use these notes, and so should all the chords and notes in the music.
