hi. I took a musical theatre class and learned to belt. To get my chest voice to go higher I would make cat sounds. Starting in the strong part of the chest range, belt (or loudly sing in chest voice) "mrrow". The "mrr" part starts low and sing the "ow" part higher up. Then repeat higher and higher. I haven't sung belt style lately, but my breaks are very smoothe now and my middle register has more power. Mostly, I found that belting and using the chest voice for singing was a lot like talking, but loud and sustained.

No disrespect intended towards Amber but i would defintiely not Recommend "belting" as that is a sure way to trash your voice. When someone belts it means they use their throat to shout on pitch, for lack of a better word, instead of using their breath support to naturally produce a louder sound. When singers belt they can really damage their voice. You might have heard about the problems Leanne Rhymes was having because she developed nodules on her vocal cords? That came from shouting or belting. Whitney Houston had a bout with that too for the same reason. You don't have to be loud to be heard. Develop your breath support and do scales. Trust me that is the best way to improve your voice and control your volume. Good luck.

I really like Christina Aguilera and I look up to her as a role model. Just recently I have learned to sing belt by just teaching myself and starting out with really easy stuff. Then I worked my way up to high pitched belt. Try it and answer me

It is different for men and women (of course!). . . Surprisingly the "break" tends to occur about the same place for both sexes, F or G above middle C. Tenors can do higher in chest voice, don't ask me how. I don't know what "belt" means but singing high up in chest voice requires a LOT of breath support and control and usually starts off being pretty dark and wobbly. After a bit of practice you can find the resonances and control the pitch better.
I find that starting low and sliding up and down fifths, making sure that your vocal position doesn't change (and that your throat is relaxed!), is a good way. You can check "vocal position" by putting 2 fingers on the larynx. (Men only!) Oh, and open your mouth!
