Matrox RT2000 realtime editing platform Xiveren Inc.'s DV film SoliloquyXiveren Inc. has released "Soliloquy," edited on the Matrox RT2000, for video distribution on the web and the digital film festival circuit across the United States. "Soliloquy" is a 30-minute digital short film that reveals the absurdity and bleakness of a failing e-commerce company, through the eyes of a harried middle manager, who secretly dreams of a different life."I started the initial cutting of 'Soliloquy' on the first Matrox RT2000 platform under Windows 98," said Vuuren. "I made extensive use of the RT2000's realtime dissolve effects, and was able to experiment a lot to get the dissolves that gave me the feel and tone I was seeking for the film. I completed my editing on the third version of the RT2000 drivers, under Windows 2000. Matrox continued to meet my post-production needs by adding new features to the RT2000 platform." Footage for "Soliloquy" was shot originally in 16:9, and was converted to letterbox 1.85:1 (standard 35mm aspect ratio). The RT2000 made this process very easy by using two tricks; customizing an RT2000 picture-in-picture (PIP) effect to squeeze the 16:9 footage to letterbox, giving Xiveren letterbox in real time, and adding a TGA matte file in real time over the final film to output at 1.85:1 letterbox - no rendering! "I chose the Matrox RT2000 platform because I wanted realtime dissolves and TGA matte files - a platform that would allow me to cut my film at the speed I desired. Price was also very much a factor. In early 2000, buying the RT2000 meant I could buy an extra professional lens for my Canon XL-1 camera. The RT2000 now works better than I had envisioned. The new Matrox PRO Pack confirms that I made the right decision in choosing the Matrox RT2000 as my editing platform.
