Yamaha Debuts New 600 and 700 Series Flutes
Yamaha Corporation of America, Band & Orchestral Division, introduces the next generation of solid silver flutes with the 600 and 700 Series that will appeal to the amateur and professional alike. The four main models, YFL-674H/684H/774H/784H, are available in a number of variations. The 600 Series, with silver-plated keys, and the 700 Series, with solid silver keys, both combine proven Yamaha quality with a host of updated features.
The most notable improvement to these models is the Type 4 body, previously available only on custom 800 Series flutes. Designed with the orchestral player in mind, the Type 4 body was created to maintain a focused tone in every range, at any dynamic level. These new flutes feature an innovative tonehole design to provide precisely the right amount of air resistance for excellent tone color flexibility.
Available now in stores, the new flutes boast a redesigned case for a more refined, contemporary appearance. The EC cut headjoints, bodies and footjoints are solid silver on each flute, and the keys on each are French-style with white gold springs.
"In Texas, Yamaha flutes have been a mainstay in the step-up market," says Yamaha Flute artist Mary Karen Clardy. "The new 600 Series improves the third-octave intonation, and particularly the focus, tone and quality of sound. The mechanism feels more solid and durable—essential qualities for the school market."
The 600 and 700 Series models are available with either the traditional inline G (YFL-684H/784H) or offset G with the split E mechanism (YFL-674H/774H). The split E mechanism allows for a smooth, in-tune high E. This feature, common on the higher-priced 800 Series, is now available on the more affordable 600 and 700 Series flutes.
"Flutists at all levels will find many new avenues of expression with these instrument improvements," says Kurt Witt, Wind Instrument product manager, Band & Orchestral Division. "From the high school practice room to the world's greatest professional venues, anyone who wants performance in a solid silver flute will enjoy the 600 and 700 Series."
